Many of you have probably received a copy of the booklet we are distributing. It is loaded with information about my campaign and my plan for the Sheriff's Office. If you haven't received one you can view it here.

First blast of information given to the public
Once the Primary was over and I received
confirmation I was on the November ballot I began reaching out with
information about myself, my qualifications, and my experience. This ad
printed in the Progress section of the News & Tribune at the end of
May. Check back frequently for more Advertisement posts!
Landmark Day
The landmark day in the campaign was Primary
Election Day when we were able to turn in the required signatures for
placement on the General Election Ballot.
Posting previous media advertisements
Now that school is back in session, I find I
don't have quite as much free time to talk with everyone. I thought I
would post all of the ads I have published in the local papers to help
answer some questions. This first ad was printed last April in the News
& Tribune along with photos of myself with local supporters like
former Sheriff Dean Marble..

A MESSAGE TO MY SUPPORTERS
I have been inundated with phone
calls, texts and emails in response to today’s events regarding Sheriff
Rodden. In circumstances like these it
is easy to chastise and throw stones, but I ask for the sake of his wife and
family, as well as the employees of the Clark County Sheriff’s office we offer
up prayers for his family and encouragement for those who wear the brown
uniform.
A leader in times like this doesn’t point fingers and kick
someone when they are down, they offer a hand and a kind word to those affected
by the actions of others. So with that I
ask our supporters to do just that.
Support the Clark County Sheriff’s office. If you see an officer, thank them for what
they do. To the Rodden family, we are
all praying for peace during this trying time.

Spainhour enters Clark County sheriff’s race
Independent candidate gets community support
By GARY POPPgary.popp@newsandtribune.com
JEFFERSONVILLE — Mac Spainhour is officially in the race for Clark County sheriff.
He filed a petition Tuesday with more than 650 signatures collected from area residents that allows him to enter the race as an independent candidate.
To become eligible to file as an independent, Spainhour said he was required to get 636 signatures, or 10 percent of the votes cast in the most recent Indiana Secretary of State election.
Spainhour, 53, Clarksville, retired from the Department of Natural Resources in 2011, after serving more than 27 years as a conservation officer in Clark County. He said he’s running as an independent because he believes that strict partisan ideologies can result in inefficient governing.
“Basically, our government, to me, is pretty stagnant, from the top all the way down. A lot of that seems to be because everything is on party lines now,” Spainhour said. “It doesn’t seem anyone can compromise. They vote on straight party lines, dig in their heels and nobody can get anything done.”
Spainhour said he holds very highly the election process and citizen participation in government.
“I sure don’t want somebody telling me that you are on this party or that party, so you have to do this and that. That really is a turn off for me,” he said. “I won’t represent a party. I will represent the people of Clark County.
“For the most part, I am running on my name. I am not going to do anything that jeopardizes my name because it doesn’t just effect Mac, it effects everybody with the Spainhour name, my cousins, my parents, even my own kids. I will never sell myself to gain a political position.”
He said that during his campaign he has overwhelmingly found, especially among young people, that voters are more concerned with candidates’ qualifications and ambitions than their political party.
“A high percentage of people don’t care what party you are with,” he said. “They are more interested in what you are going to do and if you are going to do it the right way.”
Spainhour said he’s been told many times along the way that running as an Independent in Clark County will be an uphill battle, but he said the experience has been more sweet than sour.
“You get to go out and meet people. You get to talk to them and get to know them,” he said of his campaign. “That opportunity would not have been provided to me if I had not decided to run for office.”
Spainhour said he has even been inspired by his own campaign committee, which is as diversified as it is dedicated.
“They are from different political parties, races and genders and it is really, really cool,” he said. “It makes you believe that the system can work. That people can get things accomplished. It is a great feeling to see Democrats and Republicans coming together.”
Spainhour said that after only a few years of working as a conservation officer, he knew that would eventually want to serve as the sheriff of Clark County.
“I absolutely love working in Clark County and serving the citizens. I really enjoy helping,” he said. “And, who can do more than a conservation officer? The sheriff.”

I have outstanding supporters!
Thank you everyone for allowing me to place a sign on your
property, or have volunteered a location that our hard working crews haven’t
gotten to yet. No candidate can hope to
succeed without the support of family, friends and the community. I am committed to help the Sheriff’s
Department be an exemplary department, known to be honest, fair and
responsible.
My greatest resource is YOU.
As we make our march toward November your support is invaluable. You will influence many by telling just a few
and letting it spread. Let your friends,
families and neighbors know about me and what I want to achieve. I have handouts available to help you get my
message out, just let me know how many you need and I will get them to you. Be sure to remind everyone that Independent
Candidates do not appear on the Primary Election Ballot. We will be on the ballot on November 4th,
make sure you get out and vote.
Our next round of signs have arrived, just visit our website
at www.spainhourforsheriff.com and click on “Join the Team” to submit your
address for a sign, to request other campaign materials, or to volunteer.

The Sanctity of our Vote
I meet so many amazing people on a daily basis as I travel
around the county. I am excited to be
able to give them a fresh new outlook on the direction the Sheriff’s Department
can take. As I meet new people I enjoy
hearing all the wonderful ideas on how to help the department run more
efficiently. With all these ideas paired
with my knowledge and experience I am confident we can mold the Sheriff’s
Department into a department we can all be proud of. I want to hear
ideas and concerns from everyone, regardless of party affiliation.
When it comes to party affiliation I have had several comments of support along with apologies from individuals I consider friends and good people. Our bipartisan way of life can be confusing at times as many of my supporters have encountered what we call “hushed support”. Many are unsure of how supporting someone outside their party will impact their place in the scheme of things. Some assure us they are supporting us on Election Day, but can not openly support us during the campaign.
I would like to say “Thank You” to all of my hushed supporters. They have given me confidence and hope that we all still believe in the sanctity of our vote. We still believe we can cast our vote privately, without fear of consequence for our beliefs. I look forward to reminding as many people as possible that our vote is a sacred right, to be exercised with honor. There is no requirement that you select your elected officials based on party affiliation. If you get to the polls and find you know nothing about any candidate for a particular office, you are not required to cast a vote for that office. Be a responsible voter and make an informed decision about your vote.

Mac Spainhour has the signatures needed for Nomination by petition
for Election in 2014 in the Clark County Sheriff’s race.
The Spainhour for Sheriff Committee has collected well over 700 signatures, exceeding the 636
required before the June 30th deadline for Independent Candidates nominated by petition for
Election. Once every signature has been verified by the campaign they will be submitted to the
voter registration office along with his official Consent of Independent Candidate nominated by
Petition.
There are different filing periods and requirements for Independent candidates than your
Republicans or Democrats. There is no primary election for the independent candidate in the Sheriff’s race. Spainhour will be on your General Election ballot on November 4, 2014.
Spainhour submitted his Statement of Organization several months ago and has been hard at work collecting signatures and raising money. You can follow Mac on facebook at: www.facebook.com/Mac Spainhour for Sheriff 2014, or visit the website at: spainhourforsheriff.com and for more information or to join our team.
